Stop and Smell the Roses…

Stop and Smell the Roses…

It's TED talk time again. This one from a independently run TEDx event.

Scott Stratten, Unmarketing
Keep Going Until we Stop

It's easy to get consumed by our need to achieve. To keep driving forward to the "next" thing. Especially with the online universe and working from home. We define ourselves by our job, our purpose and our goals. But, do we, do you, ever take the time to just stop. Just be with yourself, your loved ones and enjoy what you have right now?

It's not that we shouldn't do and aspire to greater things. But some time must be spend in "be". The now. I'm a dreamer and my head is often out in the land of possibilities. I have to yank my attention back into the now to get my work done, take care of business and be able to move toward those dreams.

I also take time to go out and take photographs. This gets me out into nature and definitely in the "now". I also make sure to pay attention and spend time with my wife, partner in life and best friend, Faith Barnard.

After all is said and done, the money is in the bank and we are a big deal (at least in our own mind), what really matters and all we really have is ourselves, our relationship and our experiences.

In this emotional story Scott shares his journey and realization of what is important and how we already know what we need to do, if we just pay attention.

Online Video- Bringing the World Closer Together

Online Video- Bringing the World Closer Together

A bit of History

The history of the world has been one of both great achievement and terrible violence. In the past we didn’t know what was happening in most of the world. It could take years, if ever, for information to surface and travel. Word of mouth, not instant online video kept both the good and bad news from much of the world.

Not knowing people in Kenya, South Africa, China, Eastern Europe or even the west coast not knowing much about the southern US was cause for stereotypes and stories to be created and passed down to subsequent generations. Perpetuating the myth.

Video is Changing the World

Today the Web and especially online video has altered the course of this process. We are no longer subject to the “sound bite” news. We have direct contact with a diverse and global village.

Video News of the Past

I am reminded of the year, when Faith and I lived in Seattle, and the where riots and violence downtown due to people and police clashing over the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle. The news showed closeups of all the happenings in this small few blocks. As we talked to people around the US via phone doing our normal business everyone wanted to know if we were OK. Seattle is a huge and sprawling metropolis and we lived 15 miles east in the “burbs” known as Redmond. Even if we lived downtown 99% of the city was not effected or even knew about what was happening.

We can no longer afford to listen to this self serving and myopic view of the world. It has created and perpetuates the notion that world is a scary place and all people of “X” ilk, color, religion or class are all the same.

The Good News about Online Video

All of this is unraveling with the ability to connect online and get to know each other. Now with video we are finding out that we are more alike and have the same desires and wishes. The spiritual or religious beliefs my be different. The food, clothing and political processes are different. But we are all looking for a roof over our heads, food and clean water, to be loved and cared for as well as respected. We also want financial stability and security. The new online community and global business options are changing the very fabric and monetary distribution of wealth.

As more people use online social networks and truly learn to use them to build community on a global scale, we will see the shift accelerate. No longer are our fortunes tied to the local economy. Faith and I enjoy income that comes from around the world. This is only going to grow and be enhanced in the next 4 years. It is now predicted that 90% of all global web content will be video based. Both live and recorded. Interactive and passive. Instant and easy to use.

Video online is no longer the realm of a few wealthy and tech savvy companies or individuals. The Age of Video has arrived like a freight train and will be as common as email and even more ubiquitous.

Faith and I are now using video tools in our everyday business. A few clicks and we have it done. The world is truly our “oyster” and we are connecting with people anywhere at anytime. When we do travel we now have friends to visit around the world. Our goal is to build long term, lasting personal and business relationships. Not short term self serving ones.

We see a world where all can win. Affiliate programs and Network Marketing along with the internet, and especially video, is giving the dream of financial independence and security to anyone who is willing to take advantage of it.

In the process we are breaking down walls of misunderstanding, preconceptions and mistrust. This is the true wealth of the web. The real value to the world. Along the way we are taken care of too.
