To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.”

This is really sad news. I hope that Steve will get healthier but honestly I feel that this is not going to be good…

Apple without Steve will probably become just another average electronic maker :(

I don’t think it’s good either. But I do think the roadmap has been set and laid down by Steve and his team for the next 5 years at a minimum. I don’t expect much change for this time frame. After that we will see if the team, including the newly locked in Tim Cook who just got over $300 million in stock options if he stays until 2021, can keep the vision going.

I was watching the stock for Apple during the time right before, during, and after Jobs left his position. It only varied by a few dollars and is rising up again. Jobs will still oversee things at Apple, it’s not like hes gone for good.

Tim Cook has been running things for many years now on a day to day basis. I think we all hope that Steve Jobs will be around for many years to come as a keeper of the vision. Sometimes worry he is more ill than we know.

It was really a sad news about the health of Steve and seems it is bad. I was also watching the stock for Apple during the time right before, during, and after Jobs left his position. It only varied by a few dollars and is rising up again.
